Welcome to Care4Her: Educational Support for West African Women

The English page is currently under construction.

Care4Her awards scholarships to young women from northern Ghana who work as headload carriers, so-called Kayaye, in Accra. Our focus is on women with a high school diploma who show strong potential and are eager to continue their education.

Our Mission

We empower motivated women from disadvantaged backgrounds in Ghana to pursue solid vocational training as nurses, midwives, or even medical doctors.
By doing so, we not only promote their personal autonomy and future career opportunities, but also contribute to strengthening the healthcare systems in both Ghana and Germany in the long term.

About Our Organization

Our association 'Care4Her: Ausbildungsförderung für westafrikanische Frauen e.V.' has been officially registered as a non-profit organization since March 2024.
In July 2024, we received formal recognition as a charitable organization under §52 of the German Fiscal Code (AO) by the tax authorities in Passau.

Board Members:
Dr. Stefanie Wehner (Chair)
Dr. Christian Ungruhe (Deputy Chair)
Véronique Coiffet (Treasurer)

Academic Background

The initiative for our association came from Dr. Stefanie Wehner and is the result of a multi-year research project on migration in West Africa. As part of a research transfer, academic findings were translated into practical support programs.
